Born in London England, professor Near has been a member of Kibbutz Be’it Ha’emek in the Western Galilee since immigrating to Israel. His PhD is from the Hebrew University, Jerusalem. He is now professor emeritus of Oranim, the college of education of the kibbutz movement. Professor Near has published about forty books and articles covering research areas of the kibbutz, communal societies and more. His major work, The Kibbutz Movement, is the most authoritative book on the Kibbutz.
