“A historical connection exists between the Jewish people and Palestine… and there are grounds for reconstituting their national home in that country.” The League Of Nations, 1922 This is the story line in a nut shell. The League of Nations gives over the responsibility of creating a Jewish homeland to the British who promised to do so. But the British self interests lie elsewhere and they renege, coldly sacrificing Jewish land and lives. The British take away 92% of the land allotted to Israel, prohibit immigration, incite the Arabs, and stand by when riots occur. The Jews plead and take their case to the League of Nations which agrees with them, but does nothing to protect them. The Jews build up a defense force, The Hagana amongst others, and the British throw them into jail. The Jews invent back door solutions to bring Jews into Israel from Europe (especially as anti Semitism chokes them), and the British throw the immigrants into detention camps, first in Israel and later in Cyprus. The British maintain this policy even as the Holocaust burns the Jews up in flames and after the war too, even though Jews helped the British during the War against the Nazis and their supporters, the Arabs. The death camp survivors languished in British detention camps for months on end, if they were not sent back to Europe. Furthermore, those policies misled the world to believe that a Palestinian people ever existed. Palestine was a region within the Ottoman empire, in which Jews and Arabs lived. There was never a Palestinian state or people. Arabs never claimed nationality. The Jews never stopped claiming Israel as theirs - for this their access to Israel was restricted. |

Check the math. The entire British Mandate 118,000 square kilometers, (45,000 square miles) was originally designated as a Jewish State. The British sliced off ¾ of the land 91,000 square kilometers and made it into Trans Jordan, a country which never existed before. Jews were barred from living or owning property there. Then the British donated 1,176 square kilometers to the Syrians, also forbidding the Jews from living there forcing Jewish settlers to become refugees and relocate. Then they forbade Jews access to the Negev in which no one lived. Neither Jews nor Arabs. The British never meant to create a civilian exchange system. Rather, they encouraged Arab immigration into the remaining sliver of land for the Jews (14,000 square kilometers), while restricting Jewish immigration, eventually penning it on Arab agreement. Why, you may ask, did the British show no mercy? Some point to the British self interest in the region. They owned the Suez Canal, and wanted to reassure free passage for the merchandise. They also discovered oil wells in the Arab regions. But why didn’t they protect the Jews during the Arab riots which they incited? Why did they put broken human beings behind barbed wires in Cyprus and Israel? Because they could. Because the image of the meek, docile Jews was what they were accustomed to, liked, and wanted. Because they never met a resurrected Sampson before, and when they did they threw in the towel and left. * * * * * |
